In recent years, East Ham has undergone a stylish resurgence that has seen a number of restaurants and pubs emerge as Time Out "Love London" Award winners. Its multicultural community is one of its strengths and although only eight miles from central London has a suburban feel with tree lined streets attracting and families and young professionals alike keen to experience the area's continuing growth. East Ham is on the District and Hammersmith and City Line tubes and is close to the North Circular and A13 with easy access to the city and City Airport. Central Park ad Plashet Park are the two largest in the area with playgrounds and cafes. One of its famous sons is actor Idris Elba who grew up in Hackney and East Ham, attending school in Canning Town.
